Reel Hot Captain
[book
now]
Captain Nick New, known locally as Trickshot, is extremely
knowledgeable when it comes to navigating the waters around Bermuda and is great
at finding the fish. He was introduced to fishing at an
early age when his Dad would charter the Sea Wolfe and the rest, as they say, is
history... he was a born fisherman!
He has been fishing
in Bermuda waters for almost all of his life, beginning his career as a youngster with
Capt Russell Young Sr. on the Sea Wolfe over 25 years ago.
Before realizing his dream of owning
his own charter boat, Captain Nick worked as a mate on many of Bermuda's top
charter boats:- the Barnes' boat "Blue Chip"; Joe Kelly's boat "Messaround";
and on the "Sea Wolfe" again with Russell Young Junior.
He has also owned
and run his own commercial fishing boat, "Trickshot", for
many years and certainly has experience with putting fish
on the boat, as this has been his main source of income. Nick
also holds a Lobster Pot License
and now continues to run Trickshot as a separate commercial
enterprise for providing fish and lobsters to local
restaurants.
Over the years Captain Nick has
competed and worked in countless Bermuda tournaments- Nick has also been regularly hired by American boat
owners and Captains as a guide /mate for well known tournaments such as the
Bermuda Big Game Classic and Billfish Blast, as his knowledge of local waters is
sound and expansive. He has competed in tournaments abroad, recently
working with Captain Charles Kersey on the "Big Game", where they won
the 40th Annual Georgetown Blue Marlin Tournament, the second leg of the
prestigious 2007 South Carolina Governor's Cup Billfish Series.
Last year, Captain
Nick and angler Dennis Hayes boated a 594lb blue marlin to win
the first daily of the 2009 Bermuda Big Game Classic. The fish
was actually the Biggest Fish caught during the entire
Tournament and could have won overall Biggest Blue Marlin. ....
but that's a whole different story! At the end of the day, the
Reel Hot crew were happy to take the prizes for a Daily Biggest
Fish ....... but saying that....can't wait for this year's
Classic....!
